A Game of Drums [Behind the Scenes]
Thought A: “Holy crap, have we been a band for 10 years?”
Thought B: “Christmas songs are pretty cool.”
All of the sudden we were wearing elf clothes and an immense, immeasurable, unbearable, unstoppable giddy urge to do work came over us. We headed to the jam space. When we arrived, there were loads of candy canes and presents and a tree for some reason, and the place was immaculately clean [a true miracle], and a few reindeer and elves were hanging out. “Prancer!” Paul shouted the only way one can shout when one sees Prancer, gleefully & at the top of his lungs. “You a-lookin’ for a little… help? Word travels so-fast!” Prancer replied emphatically, “The original is so lame. Like where’s the beat?” Rudolph pondered aloud throwing Loel a pair of drum sticks, eyeing him like a headlight. Loel understood at once and began to erupt in a beat so thunderous & psychedelic that T Leary appeared for approximately 5 seconds in the frosty windowpane periphery. After “the strange & timely haze vision” dissipated, Rudolph quickly set up some mics while Paul and Tim sorted out guitar parts and googled lyrics. Jon smiled from a distance, and drank a cup of rum and eggnog in something not so far removed from ecstasy.
Hours later all the drums and vocals and guitars were finally done. Loel & Paul worked on the bass. The track was sounding phat. All it needed was sleigh bells and a bit more rum. Prancer had both. And so it was done. Or was it? “Boys.” We can’t put this out unless we master this dillio!!” Loel exclaimed frantically, crying. “Why the tears Loel?” Prancer asked.
“Cause I don’t want this to end Prancer! Can’t you see? This rocks!”
“It’s immense Campbell” Prancer said. “And I know just the man to master this thing. It’s gonna get heavier. We’ll be back soon. Maybe not next year, as you might have guessed we are pretty busy… But we’ll squeeze it in at some point. Come on! You gotta fat track outta this, and some eggnog.. and a tree.. and a clean jam space.. and some rum. Enjoy it. We got some real cool company for a few hours. What a treat! We had a blast! Say hello to all your friends on your site. Post it up.” There were more tears, joyful tears and hugs, and with that they all floated out through the window and into the snowy ether. They had things to do. Thanks Rudy & Prance for all your help. Thanks Harris Newman for the fast & great mastering job so short notice.
Happy Holidays!!
